Upgrading your Si6000 PC's operating system

If you are planning to upgrade to a more recent operating system (for example, if you are upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows 2000) on a PC with the Polar Si6000 installed, you can avoid subsequent problems with your Si6000 by following this procedure.

At the time of the original Si6000 installation, the Si6000 Install Wizard installs various drivers according to the operating system in use. After an operating system upgrade, the old drivers become inappropriate. However, when reinstalling the Si6000 after the upgrade (without first uninstalling the Si6000) the Si6000 Install Wizard detects drivers already in place and leaves them there.

Procedure

Before upgrading your operating system, uninstall your Si6000 software.

If necessary, manually delete any associated folders. (For a default installation the Si6000 is installed in the Program Files\Polar\Si6000 folder.) You may keep any saved .qs6 or .xls files.

Upgrade the operating system.

Reinstall the Si6000. Be sure to sign in with Administrator rights if you are running Win 2000 or XP, and ensure your Excel security level is set to Medium (or Low, but not High) so that the Si6000 macros can run.

See the Si6000 User Guide for Si6000 installation and product activation instructions.
