CITS/Atlas/LA9000 high DPI scaling on high resolution monitors
Application Note AP626

Resolving issues with CITS/Atlas/LA9000 high DPI scaling on high resolution monitors

This note is applicable for users running Windows 10

With computer screens using ever increasing graphics display resolutions, users employing some high resolution monitors may encounter Windows scaling issues, especially when using multiple monitors that vary in display resolution.

The introduction of 4k and higher resolution monitors has highlighted the issue, especially when such monitors are mixed together with older, standard monitors. Some CITS and Atlas users may, for example, experience difficuity with the text items if rendered too small to read easily.

Windows 10 allows users to adjust DPI scaling settings for individual applications (in this case, CITS880s and Atlas.)

Altering the compatibility settings for CITS880s, Atlas and LA9000

  • For each application, right click its desktop icon or locate the application executable:
For CITS880s locate CITS880s.exe (by default, in C:\Program Files (x86)\Polar\CITS880s)
For Atlas locate Atlas.exe (by default, in C:\Program Files (x86)\Polar\Atlas)
For LA9000 locate LA9000.exe (by default, in C:\Program Files (x86)\Polar\LA9000)

  • Right click the application (CITS880s.exe, Atlas.exe or LA9000.exe) and choose Properties (see the dialog below)

  • Select the Compatibility tab

  • Click Change High DPI Settings

The high DPI settings dialog is displayed:

  • Choose Override high DPI scaling behaviour.
From the Scaling performed by: drop-down select System as shown below.
NB: the Application or System (Enhanced) settings do not resolve the issue – you must select System

  • This will allow the application to run at a viewable resolution (viewable as normal.) The PASS/FAIL result is comparatively large – but usable

  • The text and graphs in the application should now display correctly

Note that both settings must be applied.

This can prove an effective solution if you need to present the applications on a high resolution TV or 4k screen or HDPI monitor as found in newer laptops.
