Speedstack templates
Speedstack stackup templates (suitable for Speedstack 2019 or higher) The industry standard Speedstack PCB stackup design & documentation tool suite offers a powerful solution for PCB fabricators and designers for planning and creating live stacks (buildups) – complete with controlled impedance and insertion loss information and professional high quality documentation. Polar downloadable stackup templates The stackup templates listed below are typical of standard stacks used in PCB construction and may prove a useful starting point when building your own stacks. Click on the link to the stackup template page and download the Speedstack project (.sci) file; save to a convenient location and the use the Open Project command in Speedstack to view and edit the stackup |

Rigid stackups
Stackup | Description | Template |
6 layer rigid stackup with mechanical drill between layers 1 and 6. This is a typical foil build with foils on the outers (more cost effective than core builds – except in RF applications) |
8 layer rigid stackup with mechanical drill between layers 1 and 8 and laser drills between layers 1 and 2 and layers 8 and 7 |
6 layer core build rigid stackup – layers 1 and 6 single sided cores |
4 layer RF core build rigid stackup – Material Library mode. Core builds are often used for RF applications allowing the use of high performance materials on outers with lower cost materials internally. |
4 layer RF core build rigid stackup – Virtual Library mode. Virtual library mode allows designers to give fabricators a general specification – whilst allowing the fabricator freedom in final material selection. |

Flex_rigid_stackups
Stackup | Description | Template |
4 layer flex rigid – this shows a board with three cross sections, however Speedstack Flex permits unlimited cross sections for the most demanding rigid flex designs. |
6 layer flex rigid with drills |
8 layer 2-doublet flex rigid with drills |
10 layer quad flex rigid with drills |
10 layer diagonally symmetrical flex rigid |
8 layer flex rigid stack with stiffener |
HDI stackups
Stackup | Description | Template |
10 layer 3 press cycle HDI |
10 layer 4 press cycle HDI with drills – documenting in this way lets you clearly see the press cycles involved in producing the PCB. |

These stackups are indicative and may be modified to suit your application – Polar encourages designers & fabricators to plan together. |
